Electric Jetta M6 Launched: Just $11,880 and Up to 555 KM Range

Volkswagen's Jetta brand has officially launched its first fully electric saloon, the Jetta M6, in China on 22 October 2026. Starting at just 79,800 yuan (approximately $11,880), the new electric vehicle offers up to 555 kilometres of range, a 197 PS electric motor and a range of advanced technologies.

However, there is an important distinction: the entry-level price and the maximum 555 km range belong to different versions of the car. The announced prices also apply exclusively to the Chinese market.

Is the Volkswagen Jetta Making a Comeback? Not Exactly

The Jetta name is familiar to drivers worldwide, having been used for Volkswagen's popular compact saloon for decades.

However, in 2019, Volkswagen transformed Jetta into a separate automotive brand in China under its FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.

According to Volkswagen's official announcement, the Jetta brand was established to target Chinese customers looking for affordable vehicles.

Therefore, the new M6 is not a direct electric successor to the traditional Volkswagen Jetta saloon sold internationally. Instead, it represents a new generation of electric vehicles developed specifically for the Chinese market under the Jetta brand.

How Much Does the Electric Jetta M6 Cost?

At its official launch on 22 October 2026, Jetta announced three versions of the M6.

Version Price in China CLTC Range
M6 465 Pro 79,800 yuan 465 km
M6 555 Max 89,800 yuan 555 km
M6 555 Ultra 99,800 yuan 555 km

According to CnEVPost's launch report, the starting price is 1,000 yuan lower than the original pre-sale price announced in September.

The entry-level version costs approximately $11,880, while buyers seeking the maximum 555 km range must choose the more expensive 555 Max or 555 Ultra.

These prices exclude any taxes, import duties or additional costs that could apply in international markets.

Electric Jetta M6 Specifications: 197 PS and 555 KM Range

The Jetta M6 is built on the brand's dedicated Jiesi electric vehicle architecture, featuring a front-wheel-drive layout with two powertrain options.

Specification 465 Pro 555 Max / Ultra
Motor output 113 kW (154 PS) 145 kW (197 PS)
Torque 230 Nm 260 Nm
Battery capacity 42.9 kWh 51.9 kWh
Battery chemistry LFP LFP
0–100 km/h 8.3 seconds 6.8 seconds
Driving range (CLTC) 465 km 555 km

Both battery packs use lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology and are supplied by Chinese battery manufacturer CALB.

According to the manufacturer's specifications, DC fast charging can replenish the battery from 30% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes.

How Realistic Is the 555 KM Driving Range?

There is an important technical detail behind the advertised range.

The Jetta M6's maximum 555 km (345 miles) range is measured using China's CLTC testing cycle, rather than the European WLTP standard.

CLTC testing generally produces more optimistic range figures than WLTP, particularly because of differences in driving conditions and test procedures.

As a result, the M6 should not be expected to achieve exactly 555 km under all driving conditions. Its official WLTP range has not been announced.

Jetta also claims a minimum energy consumption figure of 10.5 kWh/100 km and a drag coefficient of just 0.208 Cd.

The aerodynamic body reportedly incorporates 17 optimisations designed to reduce air resistance and improve efficiency. However, these figures remain manufacturer claims rather than independently verified real-world test results.

Despite its competitive pricing, the electric Jetta M6 offers a surprisingly extensive technology package.

Measuring 4,806 mm in length, with a 2,820 mm wheelbase, the electric saloon provides a 542-litre boot.

Inside, the M6 features a 15.6-inch 2.5K central touchscreen, an 8.88-inch digital instrument cluster and a modern, minimalist dashboard.

According to ITHome's launch coverage, the infotainment system integrates three Chinese artificial intelligence platforms: DeepSeek, Qwen and Doubao.

Apple CarPlay connectivity is also supported, alongside other smartphone integration systems.

Other available features include wireless smartphone charging, a panoramic glass roof and heated and ventilated front seats, depending on the trim level.

A heat pump is fitted as standard, while 3.5 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) technology allows owners to power external electrical devices using the vehicle's battery.

The flagship 555 Ultra version also features Horizon Robotics' Journey 6M processor, enabling advanced driver assistance functions such as navigation-assisted driving on urban roads and motorways, memory parking and reversing assistance.

These features are not available across every trim level and should not be confused with fully autonomous driving.

Will the Electric Jetta M6 Be Sold Outside China?

For now, the Jetta M6 has been developed and launched specifically for the Chinese market.

There has been no confirmed announcement of sales in Europe, the United Kingdom or Türkiye, and no official international pricing has been released.

Consequently, its starting price of 79,800 yuan should not be interpreted as the price customers would necessarily pay if the vehicle were introduced in other countries.

Import duties, local taxation, homologation requirements and distribution costs could significantly affect its final retail price.

Nevertheless, the Jetta M6 demonstrates just how competitive China's affordable electric vehicle market has become.

With a claimed range of up to 555 km, a 197 PS electric motor and advanced digital technology, Volkswagen's China-focused Jetta brand is entering the budget electric saloon segment with an ambitious offering.
